Streaming isn’t new technology per se…
From what we can recall, computers like the C64 (Commodore) were streaming chunks of audio data, particularly when music programmers learned to get more sample bits into the synthetic blends of composition occurring (within a given play field or scene). The technology wasn't so advanced that you could have cut scenes like in later consoles (i.e. PlayStation, Silent Hill), but it provided for some awesome 8-Bit audio experiences. There were probably many other things that we don't recall which were possible but, today's version of streaming, birthed from all of this and more.

Yeah, the maniacs of noise had great samples in their songs on C64.
